Dear Parents,

We’ve had a very busy year this year with the OCSAA external validation, our very 1st Dinner/Auction, an Art Auction sponsored by our Arts in Stark Grant along with everything else we do in a year!!   Wow, I’m exhausted again just going back through the year!  Thank you to all the parents who work tirelessly for the benefit of our students. We can’t do it without you!! Allowing us to educate your most valuable possession has been an honor and a privilege.  I look forward to working with you again next year and  I believe we will continue to grow in God’s love and grace as we work together to do His will here on earth.

KINDERGARTEN SCREENING  Our “Sneak Peek” of Kindergarten will be on Tuesday May 6th  from 8:15 - 11:00. We are inviting all those who have an interest in our kindergarten to join us for the morning.  Parents of our students are our best advertisement!!  Please extend the invitation to anyone you know that may have a kindergarten student in the fall.  Just have them call the office for a reservation.  Thank You!!

ARTS IN STARK As you know, we were awarded a grant from Arts in Stark to be used through the 2007-2008 school year.  It’s been a very busy year! We had artists in during the fall to do art projects with all grade levels from 1-8. The students learned about Native Americans in their social studies classes and the mediums used to do the art projects were mediums Native Americans used.  During the Spring, examples of our students’ art works were displayed at the Pines Nursing Home and at Aultman Hospital.  Now it is your turn to enjoy the projects!  We will be holding our very 1st Art Auction at the school on Wednesday, May 21st at 6:30 in the cafeteria.  Every student will have a piece of art hanging in the cafeteria.  I would like it to be an evening of fellowship also.  We are providing free babysitting by our Junior High students so that parents can come relax and share an evening with other parents in the school.  We will enjoy hors d’oeuvres and drinks while roaming through the cafeteria enjoying the masterpieces made by your children.  You will then have the opportunity to purchase the art!  You even get to set the price!  I’m looking forward to the evening, and I hope we get 100% participation.  Thank you to Mrs. Lundquist, Mrs. Studeny and Mrs. Blakeney for helping with the grant, the art, the display and the auction!!!  And thank you to Arts in Stark for funding this endeavor!

CONGRATULATIONS We want to congratulate our eighth grade students who will be graduating this year:  Richard Auvil,  Desra Diehl,  Samantha Film,  Kayla Heslop, Savannah Hupp, Marc Jacobson, Claudia Lab, Halle Limbach, Alyssa Lombardi, Bianca Maierhofer, Zachary Mayle, Tess Murphy, Andrew Pachuta, Joy Sellers, Justin Turowski, Mark Volzer, Emily Wengerd, and Melissa Wills. They will be graduating from our school on Tuesday, June 3, at 7:00PM. The students have worked long and hard. They’re ready to “sprout their wings” and move on to new adventures and challenges in their lives.  We hope that we have prepared them to face our world today with the tools and skills necessary to live full and productive lives.  We wish them well and remind them that soon they will be taking their place with the rest of our distinguished alumni!  (Pass It on Mass will be Wednesday, May 28th, at 8:30).

MOTHER’S DAY/FATHER’S DAY SPIRITUAL BOUQUETS CARDS  We have in our school office Mother’s Day cards which are spiritual bouquets offered by the Sisters of the Humility of Mary.  The Sisters pray daily and offer four Masses a week for those enrolled.  What a beautiful gift to give your mother, father, sister or brother.  If anyone would like to purchase a card they are available for a donation of $2 or more.  All proceeds go to the Sisters.  Thank you.

MAY CROWNING A  very special veneration to our Blessed Mother takes place each May at which time we place a wreath of flowers on our Blessed Mother’s head.  This year our eighth graders and second graders will participate in the May crowning on Wednesday, May 20th at the 8:30 Mass.  This is a beautiful tribute honoring Mary as our Queen and spiritual Mother.  It is a distinct honor to crown the blessed mother.

THANK YOU   A very big THANK YOU to our faithful parent volunteers who have helped us in so many ways this year.  We couldn’t have done it without you!!  Know that you will be remembered in a very special way in each of our Masses during May.  May you be blessed abundantly!  We give thanks to God always for all you do, remembering you in our prayers, unceasingly calling to mind your work of faith and labor of love and endurance in hope of our Lord Jesus Christ.

SPECIAL THANK YOU    The H & S auction, reverse raffle, room parents, and fish fry are all projects of our Home and School board.  These are a hard working bunch of people who give of their time and energy so ALL parents and students in our school benefit.  Because of them and their financial contributions to the parish, we can keep our tuition reasonable.  Maybe we need to call it an investment instead of tuition because it truly is an investment for the future!  If you are involved in the Home and School in any way, THANK YOU for all you do!!!

CONGRATULATIONS   We are so proud of Mrs. Colleen Nagy and Miss Tara Williams for passing the Ohio Praxis Test.  We have known all year they were great teachers.  This is just the paper work to prove it!!!

SPORTS AWARD PROGRAM The annual sports award program will be held on Sunday, May 18th, in the cafeteria at 6:00 P.M.  We are asking each family in attendance to bring at least one covered dish to share.  The men’s club will provide the pizza, chicken and drinks.  Please fill out the information at the bottom and return to school. This banquet honors all those junior high boys and girls from St. Joseph School who participated and worked so hard in cheerleading, football, volleyball, basketball and track as well as all the coaches who gave so unselfishly of their time and talents.

FIELD DAY    Thursday, May 29th, we are going to have a Fun Day.  The day will begin with PS/K-3 going to Fun Fortress and 4-8 to Grand Slam. A special “thank you” to the Home and School for sponsoring our Day!! The afternoon will be our annual 8th grade/ teacher volleyball game.  Lunches for Fun Day are being sponsored by the courtesy of Home and School.   Thank you, Home and School.

AWARDS DAY    Wednesday, May 28th, we will be presenting various awards to our students recognizing excellent attendance, scholarship in various curriculum areas, effort, etc.  We invite you to come join us in recognizing these young students who work hard at what they do.  The awards assembly will start after the Pass it on Mass for grades 4-8 and 10:30 for grades K-3.  We hope that you will be able to come and join us.  The teachers are working hard to make this a special day all the way around to celebrate excellence!

LUNCH PROGRAM Our lunch program at school will run through June 3rd.  There will be NO lunches served on the ½ day of school on June 4th

LATCH KEY We are making plans now for our 2008-2009 Latch Key Program.  The program will run 6:45 AM to 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM to 6:00 P.M.  If you are planning on using our program, registrations need to be filled out.  Please check the bottom of this letter and a registration will be sent home with your child.

REMINDERS   Please remember, after school, no cars are permitted on the playground parking lot due to safety issues.  Too many students are going in too many directions at dismissal to have cars pulling in and out of the playground.  All students are expected to leave the playground upon dismissal or go to Latch Key if they are being picked up later.  No one is permitted to play unsupervised on the playground during school hours.

The “Pass It On” Mass is the last school liturgy on Wednesday, May 28th at 8:30 A.M.   Graduation for our eighth graders will be Tuesday, June 3, at 7:00 P.M.

The last day of school for all students is a ½ day on June 4th.  All tuition, fees, outstanding debts etc. need to be paid in full before diplomas, report cards or records are released.  Thank you for your cooperation.

YEARBOOKS will be passed out on Tuesday, May 27th.  They are a delightful pictorial of this year!  Thank you again to Miss Lisa Grossi, Mrs. Kim Stoffer, Mrs. Colleen Nagy and the 8th grade students who worked so hard on this creation. Please remind your child/children who may be putting little messages in other student’s books that all messages need to be appropriate and positive.  In this day and age, remarks made with a violent or sexual connotation or that are generally inappropriate—even if they are made in jest-- are not and will not be tolerated.

There are many other exciting field trips going on this month of which I am sure the children will benefit and are looking forward to. (All fees outside of tuition must be paid in full for children to participate in field trips—including fundraisers, library fees, cafeteria fees, Latch Key fees, etc.)  I’m sure they will have a wonderful time.  And so, at this time my prayer for you: May the peace of Christ, the wisdom of the Holy Spirit and the love of the Father be ever present in your life!

                                                                                                                                                            Sincerely,

                                                                                                                                                            Mrs. Joellen Esber, Principal

****LOST AND FOUND -   Our lost and found box is overflowing!  You name it and we probably have it in the lost and found box.  The box has always been located at the bottom of the stairs leading into the cafeteria on the right hand side.  There is even a full size winter coat in it.  If your child is missing something, have them look in the lost and found.  Parents, you are welcome to check it out when you are in the school.  We will dispose of everything at the end of the school year.
